Rates for sporting rights (which were suspended in 1994 as they cost more to administer than they brought in) have been brought back by the government. Relevant property owners should already have made a return on which the government will then assess rates. It appears that the authorities may struggle to produce accurate and fair assessments in this area and it is anticipated that many of the assessments should be appealed, but there are strict time limits for doing so.

Accordingly all affected parties (be that relevant landowners, or those renting the ground) should make sure that they are aware of the issues and check any assessment quickly and carefully when received. Relevant tenants should consider discussing matters with their Landlord about this to ensure everyhting is being done to handle the matter properly and prevent any unfairly high taxes being applied.
